Concentrating on the TEM mode, damping characteristics of partial disc
harge (PD) pulses propagating through each GIS component were investig
ated. As a result, it was discovered that frequency components above 5
00MHz were remarkably damped by spacers, T-shape branches, and L-bends
. Quantitative studies were undertaken on the frequency dependency of
this damping characteristics. Then the equivalent circuits for analyzi
ng the propagation characteristic of PD pulses were proposed. Furtherm
ore, the validity of concentrating on the TEM mode was denoted by test
s at a substation in service.
