Abstract
Between April 1985 and June 1995, 20 patients being treated for thyrot
oxicosis became pregnant, These patients are reviewed. Control of thyr
otoxicosis early in pregnancy using minimal doses of propylthiouracil
or carbimazole, followed by subtotal thyroidectomy in the middle trime
ster, is safe for both mother and fetus.
