Action is taken to help a group of registrars to enhance their skills as trainers of senior house officers. To this end, they are provided w ith guidance to increase the quantity and improve the quality of the q uestions they ask at a daily business meeting. After a study of the gu idance, the trainers showed dramatic gains in their questioning techni que. On-the-job training can be improved at the cost of a relatively s mall amount of additional time.
