Iatrogenic nerve injuries are an undesired by product of the practice
of medicine and have been so since antiquity. The majority of such inj
uries occur perioperatively, and are, therefore, attributed to surgeon
s and anesthesiologists. Nonetheless, the members of almost every clin
ical specialty are at risk to some degree. latrogenic nerve injuries c
an affect almost any portion of the peripheral nervous system, and can
result from many different causes. This article reviews many of the m
ore common iatrogenic nerve lesions.
