Abstract
A family of aminoacyl alkyl citrate compounds called viridiofungins, a re novel squalene synthase inhibitors. The compounds have broad spectr um fungicidal activity but lack antibacterial activity. Although the c ompounds inhibit squalene synthase, the first committed step in ergost erol biosynthesis, results presented in this paper show that inhibitio n of fungal growth is not related to inhibition of ergosterol synthesi s.
