G. Vishnoi et al., SPECTROPHOTOMETRIC STUDIES OF CHEMICAL-SPECIES USING TAPERED CORE MULTIMODE OPTICAL-FIBER, Sensors and actuators. B, Chemical, 45(1), 1997, pp. 43-48
A spectrophotometer has been developed using tapered core multimode op
tical fiber (PCS-600). It is based on the phenomenon of evanescent wav
e absorption and is capable of identifying the chemical species having
the absorption peaks in the visible region of the spectrum (400-700 n
m). Aqueous dye solutions of different concentration in the pure and m
ixed form have been tried and detected. The experimental results obtai
ned are discussed in the form of the possibility of using this system
as a spectrophotometer. A microprocessor based programmable kit for ta
pering the optical fiber with good precision and the detector system f
or the output signal, designed and developed are also discussed. (C) 1
