Abstract
Two different transcripts coding for legumins of Sagittaria sagittifol ia (Alismataceae) were isolated and analyzed. One of them, ssleg15, sh ows an unusually extended Hypervariable Region with a conspicuous repe at structure. Sequence and secondary structural features of the repeat units resemble those of wheat HMV glutenins, thus suggesting an examp le of convergent evolution in plant seed proteins.
