Eo. Baronova et al., STUDY OF THE POLARIZATION OF LINE EMISSIONS OF MULTICHARGED IONS IN AMICROPINCH DISCHARGE, Plasma physics reports, 24(1), 1998, pp. 21-25
The K-spectra of iron ions (from helium-like to oxygen-like ones) prod
uced in the plasma of a low-inductive spark are studied experimentally
. It is shown that the relative intensity of the resonant and intercom
bination lines of the helium-like ion depend on the orientation of the
reflecting surface of a dispersive element with respect to the discha
rge axis. This dependence indicates that the line emission of the high
ionization states of iron is polarized. One of the reasons for this p
olarization may be anisotropy of the electron velocity distribution fu
nction. This result indicates that, for the correct use of conventiona
l spectroscopic methods for estimating plasma parameters based on the
relative intensities of x-ray lines, it is necessary to introduce corr
ections related to specific features of the electron velocity distribu
tion function.
