SYNTACTIC RECOGNITION OF MAGNETIC-ANOMALIES ALONG THE MID-ATLANTIC RIDGE

Identification of magnetic anomalies for the reconstruction of isochro ns along oceanic ridges is based on matching similar structural elemen ts (peaks and troughs) of modeled and observed magnetic profiles acros s the ridge axis. A method of non-linear alignment of profiles is deve loped for automating identification of the magnetic anomalies. For the magnetic data grid from a high-resolution survey SARA (Segmentation A ncienne de la Ride Atlantique), application of our method to all the p rofiles forming the rows of the grid allows dating of the crust on the flanks of the Mid-Atlantic Ridge between 28 degrees and 29 degrees N to the age of approximately 10 Ma.
