Abstract
The two-dimensional mode equation describing drift waves that exhibit a non-Boltzmann relationship in a toroidal plasma is derived. Three ty pes of solutions are obtained: (1) propagating cell patterns, in parti cular, triangular and hexagonal cell patterns, (2) a purely growing ha rmonic function, and (3), an isolated vortex propagating in the ion di amagnetic direction.
