Es. Zouboulis et al., TEMPERATURE-DEPENDENCE OF THE ELASTIC-MODULI OF DIAMOND - A BRILLOUIN-SCATTERING STUDY, Physical review. B, Condensed matter, 57(5), 1998, pp. 2889-2896
Elastic moduli and refractive index of diamond, in the temperature ran
ge 300-1600 K, are determined using Brillouin scattering. The elastic
moduli decrease by only approximate to 8% up to 1600 K, indicating tha
t diamond retains its reputed hardness even at high temperatures. We r
eview the most commonly employed scattering geometries in Brillouin sc
attering (viz. backscattering, 90 degrees scattering, and platelet geo
metries), and discuss in detail the experimental errors which must be
considered in each case.
