Tl. Murlidharan et al., KNOWLEDGE-BASED EXPERT-SYSTEM FOR DAMAGE ASSESSMENT AND VULNERABILITYANALYSIS OF STRUCTURES SUBJECTED TO CYCLONES, Journal of wind engineering and industrial aerodynamics, 72(1-3), 1997, pp. 479-491
The knowledge-based system developed for damage assessment and vulnera
bility analysis of structures subjected to cyclones is described in th
is paper. Fuzzy sets are used for handling the uncertainties in the kn
owledge. Representation of the knowledge is dictated by the hierarchy
of dependences of the various parameters that affect the damage and vu
lnerability of a structure. Knowledge acquisition is driven by a hiera
rchical knowledge model. The information from damage survey reports, a
nd that acquired through feedback to questionnaires from experts/engin
eers forms a part of the knowledge basis. The working of the knowledge
-based system is demonstrated through example problems of damage asses
sment.
