Abstract
Convective adjustment is examined in an ocean general circulation mode l which uses an isopycnal mixing parametrization. It is found that the use of art explicit convective adjustment scheme is not needed in a v ariety of equilibria and climate change scenario simulations. A numeri cal mechanism is proposed to explain this as well as the localized app earance of 'negative' diffusion.
