Abstract
The need for interdisciplinary education in health professional curric ula is explored through the description of a two-week, interdisciplina ry, rural health immersion program, the Summer Institute. Nine student s who attended the Institute experienced interdisciplinary teams throu gh didactic and experiential learning, living, and working together. T he value of the Summer Institute as an important component of health p rofessional students' education is described through the detailed disc ussion of the process of development, implementation, and evaluation o f the Summer Institute.
