Rh. Gurwitch et al., THE IMPACT OF TRAUMA AND DISASTER ON YOUNG-CHILDREN, Child and adolescent psychiatric clinics of North America, 7(1), 1998, pp. 19
In the past few decades, the study of the impact of trauma and disaste
r on children has grown; however, information about the effects on ver
y young children is still scarce in the literature. In some regards, t
he characteristics of stress in young children are similar to these of
older children and adults; in other ways, their reactions are unique.
These characteristics, as well as mediating factors and interventions
with young children, are discussed. Suggestions for future research a
re offered.
