Abstract
Posttraumatic stress responses involve the development of characterist ic symptoms of reexperiencing, arousal, and avoidance following exposu re to a traumatic event. This article uses an infectious disease model to describe exposure and transmission of posttraumatic stress respons es, individual susceptibility and resilience, onset of symptoms, and p revention and control.
