Mym. Chiu et Kha. Yeung, PARTIAL VIDEO SEQUENCE CACHING SCHEME FOR VOD SYSTEMS WITH HETEROGENEOUS CLIENTS, IEEE transactions on industrial electronics, 45(1), 1998, pp. 44-51
Video on demand (VOD) is one of the keg applications in the informatio
n era, A hinge factor to its widespread use is the huge bandwidth requ
ired to transmit digitized video to a large group of clients with wide
ly varying requirements, This paper addresses issues of heterogeneous
clients bg proposing a program caching scheme called the partial video
sequence (PVS) caching scheme. The PVS caching scheme decomposes vide
o sequences into a number of parts by using a scalable video compressi
on algorithm, Video parts are selected to be cached in local, ideo serv
ers based on the amount of bandwidth that mould be demanded from the d
istribution network and central video server if it was only kept in th
e central video server, In this paper, we also show that the PVS cachi
ng scheme is suitable for handling vastly varying client requirements.
