Abstract
State adoption and implementation of coastal management program compon ents regarding the protection of beaches and dunes vary among the coas tal states with federally-approved coastal zone management programs, T he level of development of state coastal management programs is influe nced by a variety of political, economic, social, and environmental fa ctors, Ordinary Least Square (OLS) regression analyses were employed t o determine which of these state factors influence the level of develo pment of coastal management programs, The state factors associated wit h highly developed coastal management programs were identified as pro- environmental, activist citizenry and history of adopting environmenta l policies, (C) 1998 Elsevier Science Ltd, All rights reserved.
