Data on the calorimetric, dielectric and infrared properties of a mole
cular crystal cyclohexane-1,1'-diacetic acid around its 397 K ferroele
ctric phase transition are presented and discussed. The DSC experiment
s confirm the first order character of the phase transition and the di
electric measurements reveal a relaxation soft mode in an unusually lo
w frequency region 10(3)-10(4) Hz. Detailed analysis of the possible n
ature of the pseudoproper ferroelectric phase transition is based on t
