P. Focke et al., COINCIDENCE STUDY OF ELECTRON-TRANSFER TO THE CONTINUUM PROCESS IN H-0-]AR COLLISIONS AT INTERMEDIATE ENERGIES, Journal of physics. B, Atomic molecular and optical physics, 31(2), 1998, pp. 289-300
Energy distributions of electrons ejected into the forward direction i
n 15-214 keV H-0 --> Ar collisions were measured in coincidence with c
harge-stale analysed outgoing projectiles. All spectra show a cusp-sha
ped peak centred at an electron velocity equal to that of the projecti
le. The peaks observed in coincidence with H+ are associated with the
electron-projectile Coulomb final-state interaction. On the other hand
, the physical origin of the cusp-like structure observed in coinciden
ce with neutral H-0 outgoing projectiles is still unknown. Here we pre
sent some new evidence that seems to indicate that this peak can be at
tributed to the dipole interaction between the emitted electron and an
excited state of the outgoing H-0 projectile. The fractions of the cu
sp yields show that the electron transfer into the continuum process a
ssociated with emerging H-0 becomes more important for decreasing proj
ectile energies.
