Sm. Petrovic et al., THIN-LAYER CHROMATOGRAPHY OF ALDOPENTOSE AND ALDOHEXOSE DERIVATIVES, JPC. Journal of planar chromatography, modern TLC, 10(6), 1997, pp. 406-410
To study the relationship between chemical structure and retention beh
avior in TLC on silica gel, the retention constants of variously subst
ituted 1,2-O-isopropylidene derivatives of aldohexoses and 1,2-O-cyclo
hexylidene derivatives of aldopentoses were measured as a function of
the composition of eight binary mobile phases. The slopes and intercep
ts of the linear relationships between the retention constant (R-M) an
d the logarithm of the volume fraction of the polar mobile phase compo
nent were calculated and are discussed in relation to solute and mobil
e phase characteristics. The R-F values and relative retention (Delta
R-M) of compounds depend largely on the retention behavior of their su
bstituents.
