Jl. Villanueva et al., PNEUMOCYSTIS-CARINII MENINGORADICULITIS IN A PATIENT WITH AIDS, European journal of clinical microbiology & infectious diseases, 16(12), 1997, pp. 940-942
Pneumocystis carinii is a common opportunistic pathogen in patients in
fected with the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). Pneumocystis carin
ii pneumonia is common, while extrapulmonary infections with Pneumocys
tis carinii have been reported sparingly. The clinical features are fr
equently nonspecific. The detection of Pneumocystis carinii in cerebro
spinal fluid (CSF) has not been reported thus far. In this report, an
unusual case of Pneumocystis carinii meningoradiculitis in an HIV-infe
cted patient who had previously received primary prophylaxis with trim
eihoprimsulfamethoxazole is presented.
