E. Gouaux, ITS NOT JUST A PHASE - CRYSTALLIZATION AND X-RAY STRUCTURE DETERMINATION OF BACTERIORHODOPSIN IN LIPIDIC CUBIC PHASES, Structure, 6(1), 1998, pp. 5-10
Utilization of lipidic cubic phases in the crystallization of bacterio
rhodopsin (bR) has yielded long sought after crystals that diffract X-
rays to 2 Angstrom resolution. The resulting structure provides new in
formation on the protein conformation and the mechanism of proton tran
slocation. Crystallization of bR via lipidic cubic phases may be a har
binger of new membrane protein crystallization strategies.
