Maintenance of normal intracranial pressure is crucial to the developm
ent of the neonatal brain. Certainly, neonatal hydrocephalus will pert
urb cerebral development and calls for careful and timely intervention
. Many competing factors must be taken into account when evaluating th
e neonate with hydrocephalus. A neurosurgical approach to the manageme
nt of neonatal hydrocephalus is presented with emphasis on practical t
reatment paradigms.
