Abstract
Thermogravimetric analysis was used for studying the features of exten sive liquid-phase carbon reduction of zinc and iron containing slag me lts when the metallic phase is in contact with carbon. The mechanism o f multistage reduction of zinc andiron oxides was established and the kinetic characteristics of the reduction process determined. The study included investigating the phenomenon of oxide melt foaming at the st age of extensive reduction which provides for effective bubbling throu gh the slag bath and significant intensification of the reduction proc esses. The established featured of reduction under foaming-bubbling co nditions suggest the advantages of using electrothermal technology for exhaustive recovery of zinc from slags.
