Thermochemical investigations of water-bearing silicates were carried
out by the technique of calorimetry of dissolution in aggressive media
. The goal was to determine the enthalpy of the dissolution of water i
n the form of molecular and hydroxyl species in silicate substances, a
nd the effect of the composition on this quantity. The study yielded t
he enthalpies of water dissolution in the molecular and the hydroxyl s
pecies. It is shown that the dissolution of water in rhyolitic glass,
with the formation of hydroxyl groups, follows the same scheme as in a
lbitic glass, differing from the scheme of interaction with quartz gla
ss.
