Analysis of cyclonic activity in moderate latitudes of the North Atlan
tic and the adjacent land in 1980-ies using the proposed index Cr reve
als a large-scale fluctuation connected with quasiregular variation of
other factors. Among them are intensity of cyclonic activity in the t
ropics, temperature and salinity variation in the North Atlantic curre
nt system, sea-ice area variations in certain regions. Analysis of all
these phenomena complex shows the relationship the El Nino-Southern O
scillation. Some evidence is given that the discussed complex of the i
nterrelated fluctuations is characteristic not only of the given decad
e bur also of other time intervals.
