Gv. Agapova et Vn. Charapov, MORPHOSTRUCTURE OF THE EAST INTERSECTION OF THE AXIAL RIFT OF THE MID-ATLANTIC RIDGE AND GREEN CAPE FRACTURE-ZONE, Okeanologia, 37(6), 1997, pp. 915-919
A bathymetric chart of 1 : 50000000 scale with a contour interval of 5
0 m. Is composed on the basis of multibeam echo-sound survey. A comple
x structure of the bottom was found in the intersection of the rift an
d fracture zone. The rift valley has a corner shape, its width its is
about 15 miles. The riff divides into a valley of the mouth part and f
our small segments located in echelon and separated by sublongitude ri
dges. The bottom of the rift valley is 5 miles wide and represented a
dissected neovolcanic zone with sublongitude ridges and depressions. E
vidently the volcanism manifests not only on the axial part of the val
ley but at the base and slope of the rift valley also, The rift ridges
near the fracture zone are transformed. in big blocks. Among this blo
cks is an angular rise, which represents a two-top block with large sp
ur standing out. The base of the block is formed by ultramaphic rocks
and break out by dikes of basalts. Tops of rise and its spur represent
s volcanic forms, which are disposed on the sublatitude line of disloc
ation.
