Abstract
Galeus springeri n. sp. is described from the Caribbean Sea and was pr eviously included with the subspecific complex of Galeus arae (Scylior hinidae). It is distinguished from congeners by the combination of the presence of a ventral precaudal crest of enlarged denticles, longitud inal striped pattern, and greater number of monospondylous and diplosp ondylous vertebrae. Galeus springeri is sympatric with Galeus arae ant illensis and is found off the Lesser Antilles, Puerto Rico, Hispaniola , and Cuba.
