The centipede fauna of a wasteland area in the city of Rome has been s
tudied for two years in order to assess the seasonal change of the cen
tipede community for species composition and abundance. Twenty species
have been recorded, the most frequent being Lithobius acuminatus Brol
emann, L. calcaratus C. L. Koch, both thermophilous, and L. lapidicola
Meinert, euryoecious. The higest number of species and specimens were
collected in January/April and in October/December, the rainy periods
of the area which is characterized by a Mediterranean climate.
