The rapid technical and economic progress being made in PIM made this inaugural European meeting a particularly timely event, A number of co ntributions from outside Europe gave an international flavour to the m eeting, and discussion in the well attended sessions was never less th an lively, reflecting the diversity of approaches to development in wh at is still a relatively young discipline.
