Abstract
The authors demonstrate that nonlinear and chaotic dynamics in externa l cavity laser diodes can be controlled by the use of optimised impuls ive delayed feedback applied via the laser drive current. Attention is given to practical constraints arising from technical delay in applic ation of the control signal. The rapid convergence to a targetted dyna mical stale of the laser is graphically shown by the diminishing ampli tude of the required control pulses.
