This article introduces the special section of the Journal of Consulti ng and Clinical Psychology on empirically supported psychological ther apies. After a discussion of the rationale for the selection of the sp ecific terms in the label, several justifications are considered for c onducting and learning from empirical evaluations of psychological the rapies.
