The kinematical features of leading Lambda hyperons produced an carbon
and lead nuclei by 4-10-GeV neutrons and accompanied only by neutral
particles are presented for angles with respect to the beam axis that
lie in the region theta < 8.5 degrees. The experiment performed in a n
eutron beam from the proton synchrotron installed at ITEP (Moscow) emp
loyed the KAON magnetic spectrometer. The normalized invariant cross s
ection as a function of p(perpendicular to)(2) can be fitted to the ex
pression Dexp(-B p(perpendicular to)(2)), where the parameter B is fou
nd to be independent or the type of nucleus [B = 8.71 +/- 0.09 (GeV/c)
(-2) for carbon and B = 8.83 +/- 0.18 (GeV/c)(-2) for lead]. In contra
st to what was previously observed for leading mesons, no dependence o
f the x(F) distribution on the target mass number is seen in data for
leading Lambda hyperons.
