Ya. Batusov et al., EMISSION OF CHARGED-PARTICLES IN THE ANNIHILATION OF STOPPED ANTIPROTONS ON HEAVY PHOTOEMULSION NUCLEI, Physics of atomic nuclei, 61(1), 1998, pp. 79-80
Experimental data on the annihilation of stopped antiprotons on photoe
mulsion nuclei are analyzed for the emission of a single charged secon
dary. Six one-prong stars featuring black particles with nearly equal
ranges in emulsion (79.4 +/- 5.1 mu m on average) are found. That the
ranges of these black particles are nearly equal suggests that proton
annihilation is followed by the evaporation of an a particle from the
excited residual nucleus. The branching ratio of the detected events i
s not less than (1.3 +/- 0.6) x 10(-3).
