Jm. Legresy et al., IMPROVEMENT OF THE SCORING PROCESS FOR EASY OPEN ENDS - FROM THE INDUSTRIAL ISSUE TO SIMPLE SHEAR TESTS, Revue de métallurgie, 94(12), 1997, pp. 1509-1515
The improvement of the openability of easy open ends leads to a reduct
ion in residual thicknesses under the scores. This reduction has to be
made while maintaining the integrity of the material. The present stu
dy in aimed at understanding how this can be achieved. The study inves
tigates the mechanism of material deformation and damaging during the
scoring process of different aluminium alloys in order to identify the
conditions for safe downgauging beyond the currently used thicknesses
. The simple shear tests technique has been used to correlate ductilit
y to deformation behaviour. Anisotropy of ductility has been related t
o shear banding and this is one of the aspects studied here.
