The quenching buffer method was used in investigation of flash photoly
sis of a C2F5I-O-2 mixture. A scheme of the main processes that accomp
any photolysis: of this mixture was proposed. The rate constant of rec
ombination of C2F5 radicals with O-2 molecules was determined. C2F5O2
peroxyl radicals, formed during photolysis, quenched the excited state
s I(5(2)P(1/2)) Of the iodine atom and O-2*((1) Delta(g)) of the oxyg
en molecule at rates characterised by constants close to their gas-kin
etic limits. A high recombination efficiency of C2F5O2 peroxyl radical
s with I(5(2)P(3/2)) iodine atoms was observed. The rate constants of
reactions of C2F5O2I molecules with I and I atoms, resulting in rapid
formation of molecular iodine, were also determined.
