Since the review of Smith & Cermeli (1979) no overall update has been
published on aphid species present in Chile. Introduced aphid species
of the family Aphididae that should be incorporated to Smith & Cermeli
(1979) are 41, while citations and descriptions of native species of
Aphididae have increased by 14. In addition, information about Adelgid
ae and Phylloxeridae is given. In this work the following species are
cited by first time for Chile: Appendiseta robiniae (Gillette, 1907) (
Aphididae: Drepanosiphinae), Brachycaudus rumexicolens (Patch, 1917) (
Aphididae: Aphidinae), Eulachnus rileyi (Williams, 1910) (Aphididae: L
achninae) and Rhopalosiphoninus latysiphon (Davidson, 1912) (Aphididae
: Aphidinae). The analysis of the available information yields 135 spe
cies reported to date, with only 31 native species (23%), that have be
en described either from Chile or from neighbouring countries and subs
equently found in Chile. The percentage of species endemic to Chile is
74.2% (23 species). The information is discussed in biogeographical t
erms and some predictions about native aphid species richness in Chile
are made.
