Flow-vacuum pyrolyses of the title hydrocarbons afford anthracene and
9-methylanthracene as main products. The reaction mechanism suggested
by Trahanovsky(2) for pyrolysis of dibenzocyctooctene- and dibenzocycl
oheptene derivatives is confirmed. For secondary products, parallel ra
dicalic routes are suggested.
