Abstract
Standard energies of combustion of L-, D-, and DL-aspartic acids have been detetermined in an oxygen bomb combustion calorimeter. Derived st andard enthalpies of formation at 298.15 K are as follows: C4H7NO4 (s) + 3.75 O-2 (g) -->, 4 CO2 (g) + 3.5 H2O (1) + 0.5 N-2 (g) L-aspartic acid Delta(c)H degrees (298.15 K) = -378 +/- 2.7 kcal\mol Delta(f)H de grees (298.15 K) = -236 +/- 2.7 kcal/mol D-aspartic acid Delta(c)H deg rees (298.15 K) = -379.6 +/- 2.6 kcal/mol Delta(f)H degrees (298.15 K) = -235 +/- 2.6 kcal/mol DL-aspartic acid Delta(c)H degrees (298.15 K) = -374 +/- 2.5 kcal/mol Delta(f)H degrees (298.15 K) = -240.4 +/- 2.5 kcal/mol.
