Abstract
A preliminary study on acid and alkaline phosphatases in Hard Brown He ad Portion (hbhp) of fifth age larvae of silkworm, Bombyx mori against , synthetic substrate para-nitro phenyl phosphate disodium salt (PNPP) showed that acid phosphatase (EC 3.1.3.2) activity is larger than alk aline phosphatase (EC3.1.3.1) in hbhp. Both acid and alkaline phosphat ases activities had the highest peak in 5th day of the last instar lar vae. The acid phosphatase activity in the hbhp displayed first order r eaction until 37.5 degrees C for at least 30 minutes. Reaction of this enzyme was studied over 20-50 degrees C due to its thermostability.
