This study examines differences in frequency of emotional/behavioural
disorders of children and adolescents in eastern and western Germany.
In the national representative sample N = 2856 parents of 4-18 years-o
ld children and adolescents answered: Achenbachs Child-Behavior-Checkl
ist. N = 1798 children and adolescents aged 11-18 answered Achenbachs
Youth-Self-Report. Comparing means of scales of parents and children/a
dolescents, no differences between eastern and western Germany can:be
found. Only YSR shows gender differences between both parts of Germany
, emphasized by the comparison of extremely high scores;:Girls in east
ern Germany judge themselves twice as often as bothered by internal pr
oblems than girls in western Germany. These differences can be: traced
back to a higher social withdrawal and to larger social problems with
peers.
