Abstract
The force density acting on a non-stationary and inhomogeneous dispers ive medium in the presence of a high-frequency electromagnetic held is calculated in a covariant formalism. It is demonstrated that the aver age Lorentz force density due to a wave in the medium can be written u sing only the Maxwell electromagnetic tensor.
