Abstract
Single crystals of KBiO2 (colourless) and RbBiO2 (colourless) were obt ained by solid state reaction of the respective binary metal oxides. B oth crystal structures (KBiO2: C2/c; a = 783.13(9), b = 790.92(1), c = 596.86(8) pm, beta = 124.81(1)degrees; Z = 4; 445 diffractometer data ; R-1 = 0.027; wR(2) = 0.069; RbBiO2: C2/c; a = 806.20(5), b = 838.88( 4), c = 598.14(4)pm, beta = 123.68(1)degrees; Z = 4; 289 diffractomete r data; R-1 = 0.040; wR(2) = 0.101) reveal infinite (1)(infinity)[BiO2 ]-chains extending along the [001] direction. The compounds are isostr uctural with NaBiO2 and CsBiO2.
