The effect of fermentation time of sugar cane with bovine faeces in a
70:30 proportion was analized through fermentative and chemical indica
tors. A simple classification design was used with 6 treatments consis
ting of different times of fermentation up to 6 days. The dry matter o
f the fermented product decreased significantly according to the time
of fermentation; however, organic matter did not differ from the first
day of fermentation. True protein increased (P < 0.01) from 2.62%, at
the beginning of fermentation, to 9.25% during the second day and dec
reased during the fourth day of fermentation, while crude fibre augmen
ted during the first (29.38%) and fourth (35.62%) day. The pH diminish
ed (P < 0.01) during the first day but increased in the fermentation w
hich corresponded to VFA levels. Amonia production was low during the
fermentative process and it reached the highest value the first day of
fermentation. The results obtained allow to conclude that 2 days of f
ermentation are enough for processing sugar cane with bovine faeces an
d obtaining a high nutritive product.
