V. Dibenedetto et G. Monfort, HOW PRENATAL ULTRASOUND CAN CHANGE THE TREATMENT OF ECTOPIC URETEROCELE IN NEONATES, European journal of pediatric surgery, 7(6), 1997, pp. 338-340
The authors present a series of 25 neonates with duplex ureterocele di
agnosed in utero. Initial treatment was endoscopic incision (EI) of th
e ureterocele in 18 cases (72%). Ureterocele was bilateral in one Ease
. Fl achieved satisfac tory decompression of ureterocele in 100% (1 bi
lateral). Reflux in the upper pole (UP) was created in 44.4%, and UP w
as preserved in 44.4%, Reconstruction of the lower urinary tract was a
ccomplished in 15 (83.3%) patients who Rad had endoscopic treatment, N
o incontinence was observed. EI of the ectopic ureterocele should be c
onsidered as a first choice approach in neonates, Prompt intervention
allows succesful decompression of ureterocele and can sometimes improv
e the function of the renal moiety involved.
