Abstract
The authors analyse the effect of cross-phase modulation (XPM) on wave length division multiplexing (WDM) transmissions by experiments and nu merical simulations, and provide the XPM limitation in a normalised an d closed form formula. They also investigate the effect of XPM on disp ersion compensated It is shown that the location of dispersion transmi ssions. compensators and the amount of compensation determined by cons idering the XPM effect.
