A. Fontana et al., THERMAL AND VIBRATIONAL PROPERTIES OF SILICA XEROGELS, Philosophical magazine. B. Physics of condensed matter.Statistical mechanics, electronic, optical and magnetic, 77(2), 1998, pp. 333-340
The structure and the dynamics of silica sol-gel samples have been stu
died by means of Brillouin and Raman scattering, and specific heat exp
eriments. The results are compared with those of xerogel glasses and a
morphous silica, obtained by thermal treatment and by melt quenching r
espectively. Increasing the treatment temperatures produces progressiv
e densification of the xerogel systems, whose dynamics and calorimetri
c properties are analysed for a wide range of temperatures.
