DIFFERENT operating frequencies and performance requirements for the v
arious worldwide wireless standards are creating challenges for commun
ications system and subsystem designers. Two gallium-arsenide (GaAs) m
onolithic power amplifiers address this concern by permitting design o
ptimization across a broad 1,7-to-1.9-GHz frequency range. Although th
e amplifiers are specifically designed for the Global System for Mobil
e Communications (GSM)-based DCS-1800 and PCS-1900 standards, they are
also suitable for the IS-95 code-division-multiple-access (CDMA) and
IS-136 time-division-multiple-access (TDMA) standards. The integrated-
circuit (IC) approach simplifies design and manufacturing, while reduc
ing cost and circuit-board area.
