Abstract
The apparent absence of antimatter (anti-helium, anti-carbon, etc.) in the universe is a major puzzle of particle physics. The ALPHA Magneti c Spectrometer AMS is a high resolution tracking detector under constr uction. It will improve the sensitivity for antimatter search by a fac tor of more than 10(4). For more than 3 years AMS will sample cosmic r ays in space while orbiting around earth on the international space st ation ISSA.
